Moving Is Like War

It struck me the other day that moving is a bit like war.

It's exhausting.
It's destructive and expensive. We've thrown away, left behind and otherwise had to replace a LOT of stuff that was perfectly good (trashcan, pooper-scooper, salad dressings, propane tank, etc)
It should not be done lightly, and should be avoided if at all possible.
It's sometimes absolutely necessary and unavoidable.
It's an adventure.
It involves painful losses and opportunities for heroics.
Even when it's over, there's a lot of cleaning up to do.
You feel so much better when it's over.

Yes, I'm very glad we're done moving for a while. . . the worst is moving under duress. We flooded a couple of years back and lost/got rid of so much while they were repairing the house (aka, gutting it). There were a lot of tears and naughty words, but there was also this strange cleansing feeling. A do-over. Yeah, I have a love/hate relationship with moving. Hope you can relax when its all done!

Hi Dan: from one experienced 'mover' to another: amen! Moving is like hitting yourself with a hammer, becasue when you stop (alredy moved in, boxes are emptied, and everything put where it's supposed to be, including haveing to go out and buy all new window curtains, curtain rods, venetian blinds, and drapes, etc, because nothing from your old house fits into any of your windows of your new house etc) your head feels so much better..... Ok... It's been awhile since I've had the time to catch up on my blog reading. I must say however, Dan, your posts are just making me really laugh.

Perhaps it's because we laugh at things that are true... or painful. (That's bad of me but you know what I mean)

Just loved this parting comment...Next week: How moving is like hitting yourself in the head with a hammer!
