It's been said that possession is nine tenths of the law. It hit me the other day that proximity is nine-tenths of leadership.
That is, if you're in a situation that calls for leadership, don't worry about whether or not it's "your job." You're there, so do something.

Yes, I agree Dan... being there and now, and doing something, also provides notice that you can recognize a situation and that you can act upon it. Some leaders think later, I "should have"... those shoulda, coulda, woulda's don't count.

This is brilliant. I can't begin to tell you the leadership brownie points I've accumulated by just showing up to staff parties or "non-executive" meetings. Sometimes, just "Being There" speaks volumes.
