Steve Irwin - RIP

It was so sad to hear that Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin was killed by a stingray. Wow.

I never thought he'd die of something like high cholesterol, of course (not that I'd ever really thought about it), and I suppose he did die doing what he loved. But he's got two kids (ages 8 and 3), not to mention his wife. It's such a loss.

I am also quite stunned and saddened by Steve's death. I think that this is quite a loss to many people. :(

Indeed this is a tragic loss. I always loved the enthusiasm, passion and exuberance for living he portrayed. It seems he was a real rogue; a defacto PIFL; a true and kindred spirit to those everywhere who want to make a dent in the universe.

Over on the Animal Planet website they've started many forums for discussion about Steve. One writer asks why his death has affected him so much even though he really didn't know much about Steve...only ever watched the show. This person's summation:

"He was what we all wish we could be, a dreamer, and a doer...he DID change the world, he DID leave a mark."

What a profound statement. This is why Steve was so refreshing.

He was an amazing guy, and it's such a loss... but as you said, Gabe, he definitely left a mark.
